                             Happy November!
The third grade teachers would like to thank the parent volunteers and their children for creating our Connecticut scarecrow!  This activity tied into our exploration of the gigantic Connecticut map that was at Mackrille School on October 26th.  The students worked in small groups to complete a scavenger hunt.  They located lakes and rivers, as well as the borders of Connecticut.  It was an educational as well as fun activity!
November 3rd is Mackrille's monthly Character Education Assembly.  At this assembly, the Third Grade will present information about thankfulness and gratitude.  First the students will use American Sign Language to sign "It's a Wonderful World" followed by students from each class reading their Thankful Thoughts. We all have so much to be thankful for!
In math, we are just finishing up Unit 2.  We will then complete a Performance Task on calculating the costs involved in caring for a pet.  They will create a pictograph showing their results.  They have been working hard to master multiplication facts from 0-12.  Please continue to practice these facts nightly.  Xtra Math is a great resource to utilize toward achieving multiplication fact mastery.
In reading, the students will soon complete Unit 1 followed by the district's Common Assessment.  We are focusing on character traits and using text evidence to prove these traits.  The students are also writing story summaries remembering to use transition words and to include only the most important details. Students should be reading nightly and filling out their reading logs.
I would like to wish all of my students and their families a very Happy Thanksgiving!  I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such kind, respectful children.  They truly brighten my days at Mackrille School!
