This is the image for the news article titled Third-graders partner with West Haven Land TrustMore than 80 third-graders recently partnered with the West Haven Land Trust in promoting Earth Day (which was April 22) and the environment. They participated in a poster contest, which had a theme of "the Sound & Recycling." Submissions were displayed April 13 at a Land Trust event in the St. John Vianney Church conference room.

The 1st place winner was Aniah Glover, Forest Elementary School (standing in the photo above with Renny Loisel, President, Land Trust of West Haven). Second place went to Abby Giaquinto, Seth G. Haley Elementary School. Sharon Paine, Forest and Alma E. Pagels Elementary School third-grade science teacher, holds up the poster from the third-place winner, Marilyn Suchite-Henostroza, in the photo. Our science teachers for kindergarten through fourth grade helped coordinate the contest, which correlated to a recycling curriculum being taught in third grade.

Teachers and judges included Tricia Maloney (judge), Land Trust of West Haven; Joanne Poffenberger (judge), West Haven High School Chemistry Teacher; Raffaela Fronc (judge), Science and STEM Coordinator K-12; Joanne Conlan, Science Facilitator, Savin Rock Community School; Kim Parlee, Seth Haley Elementary School science teacher; Nicole Cosgrove, Mackrille Elementary School science teacher; Cheryl Jennings; Washington Elementary School science resource teacher; and Sharon Paine, Forest Elementary School and Pagels Elementary School science teacher.
